HOW DHB WORKS
Designed around absorption.
Dihydroberberine is a reduced form of berberine. After oral intake, it can be absorbed and converted back to berberine, which is one reason researchers have studied DHB as an alternative delivery form.
The central question is pharmacokinetics: how much of the compound reaches circulation, how quickly it appears, and how exposure compares under controlled conditions.
Pharmacokinetics ≠ outcomes
Higher measured exposure can tell us a formulation is behaving differently in the body. It does not automatically establish greater weight loss, better glucose control, or any other long-term clinical result.
HUMAN RESEARCH
A small randomized crossover pilot found higher berberine exposure after DHB.
In a human crossover study, researchers compared a 100 mg dose of dihydroberberine with a 500 mg dose of standard berberine. DHB produced substantially higher measured plasma berberine exposure in that short protocol.
Importantly, the study was designed primarily around absorption and pharmacokinetics. It did not demonstrate significant short-term differences in glucose or insulin outcomes. That distinction matters.
Promising
Human data support the idea that DHB can be absorbed differently from standard berberine.
Early
The human DHB evidence base is still much smaller than the broader literature on standard berberine.
Worth separating
Absorption data and long-term health outcomes answer different scientific questions.
CELLULAR ENERGY RESEARCH
AMPK: the body's metabolic energy sensor.
AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) helps cells respond to changes in energy availability. Researchers study its role in metabolic processes including glucose handling, fat oxidation, and mitochondrial function.
Laboratory and animal studies involving berberine—and preclinical work involving DHB—have examined AMPK signaling. These findings help explain why the pathway attracts scientific interest, but they do not establish that taking DUNEZA DHB activates AMPK in humans.

What AMPK research can—and cannot—tell us
Mechanistic findings are not the same as clinical outcomes. A 2008 preclinical study examined berberine, dihydroberberine, mitochondrial complex I, and AMPK. Small human DHB trials have measured absorption, not direct AMPK activation or long-term health outcomes.

OUR FORMULATION STANDARD
Use evidence without overstating it.
DUNEZA DHB provides 150 mg per capsule and a 300 mg daily serving. The formula is intentionally focused rather than padded with unrelated active ingredients.
The product is gluten-free and manufactured in a GMP-certified, FDA-registered facility.
What we do not claim
- We do not call DHB “5× stronger.”
- We do not claim DHB is proven to cause weight loss.
- We do not claim it has fewer GI side effects than berberine without head-to-head evidence.
- We do not turn early pharmacokinetic findings into guaranteed outcomes.

Read the evidence with context.
Does DHB have as much research as standard berberine?
No. Standard berberine has a broader clinical literature. DHB has a smaller and earlier human evidence base, with useful pharmacokinetic data but fewer long-term outcome trials.
Why use DHB if the research base is smaller?
The absorption profile makes DHB scientifically interesting and supports its use as an efficient, next-generation form. DUNEZA presents that rationale without treating it as proof of outcomes that have not been established.
